Things you must have to know about Hypertension

hypertensionHypertension is actually a state of great psychological stress or an abnormality in blood pressure. Medically it is a state in which our arteries have continuously overhead the pressure of blood.


Our heart pumps the blood to the whole body through arteries, every time it beats. And the force of blood by which it is pushed up against the vessel walls is considered as Blood Pressure.  The normal blood pressure or healthy blood pressure level should be below 120/80, it means that maximum pressure in the arteries should be 120 and the minimum pressure should be 80.


When the maximum pressure in the arteries is in between 120 and 139 and the minimum pressure is in between 80 to 89 then the condition is known as prehypertension.  And this situation increases the risk of hypertension. Now what is high blood pressure?? When the pressure of blood reaches to the level of 140/90 or above then it is considered as hypertension or high blood pressure.


There can be several and more than many symptoms of hypertension. Even there are conditions that a person actually can never know he is having high blood pressure. So it is recommended that to check the readings often by using a sphygmomanometer. However there can be some known symptoms including severe headaches, nausea, chest pains, breathing problems, blood in urine and irregular heartbeat, and dizziness. That’s why it is advisable to check the blood pressure in any of described cases.


Hypertension can be of two types.

  1. Primary Hypertension
  2. Secondary Hypertension

When there is no noticeable or detectable root of high blood pressure then it is known as ESSENTIAL or PRIMARY HYPERTENSION.

When there are present participles of high blood pressure we call it SECONDARY HYPERTENSION. Now there can be diverse reasons that can lead to secondary hypertension. Some of the risk factors are that causes high blood pressure are:

  • Any problem in kidney
  • Tumors
  • Obesity
  • Too much drinking alcohol
  • Smoking
  • Contrary sleep
  • Use of drugs
  • Birth control pills
  • Being over weight
  • Not being physically active
  • Aging
  • Genetics
  • Inadequate intake calcium and vitamin D
  • Too much intake of sodium in diet


The higher the rate of hypertension and the longer you ignore it, the bigger the damage will be. So it is important to protect and control hypertension in its earliest stages because it can lead towards some serious situations such as heart attacks, brain strokes or kidney failure. Immoderate pressure of blood on your arteries can damage your blood vessels and some organs in body.


Proper diet and exercise are the key elements for preventing high blood pressure. Try to keep your  weight healthy, lessen the intake of salt, lessen the intake of alcohol and diminish the stress from your life, to lower or reduce your blood pressure.
